Evaluating your Weight Loss Progress

When losing weight it is important to do it safely and slowly. At the beginning of any weight loss program you should evaluate your goals and set them sensibly in order to not get discouraged. Sure, we would all love to lose ten pounds in the first week, but this is not the best way to approach your endeavor. By making a goal to lose one or two pounds a week, you should be able to reach your goals - with sensible eating and moderate exercise.

The important point of this slower weight loss is to not "confuse" your metabolism. Losing weight slowly has been shown to be the best method for people to keep the weight off in the long term because the loss is occurring due to lifestyle changes, not fad diets. If you find that after a few weeks you aren't losing weight anymore it may be time to make a few more adjustments to your eating or exercise. Adding in weight training to your exercise regimen can help keep your metabolism revving even at rest and tracking your calorie intake will help you achieve your weight loss goals.
